The high-quality geography education at Trentham Academy will inspire in students a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. The aim of the Geography department is to promote an interest in the world around us, through the study of the earth’s different features, locations and cultures.
Students study different elements of Geography that enable them to ask questions of the world, people and environment and make interconnected links across these areas.
Teaching equips students with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of a broad range of the Earth’s physical and human processes through the use of relevant, up to date and engaging examples.
As students develop their ambitions to progress in the subject, their growing knowledge through the coherent planning of lessons, will enable students to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.
The application of Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills provide the frameworks and approaches that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time. This is through a wide variety of carefully chosen topics which expose students to new and interesting places. Students will be competent in a range of Geographical Skills through the use of different types of resources and media.
Students will not only develop their Geographical skills but also a wide range of ‘skills for life’, such as an appreciation of bias in resource materials, examining different points of view and reaching substantiated conclusions.
