All students are required to have an iPad that they use to support with their learning both in and out of the Academy. They are a fundamental part of our Teaching and Learning strategy and are used extensively by all staff.
Students are required to use the devices to access our VLE but also as a method of collating student feedback in our lessons.
We offer a scheme every September to allow parents/carers to purchase a device and thus have the benefit of paying in small instalments.
iPad scheme
The Academy iPad scheme includes insurance for accidental damage. All of our current iPad schemes are with Sync digital. In the event of a claim please visit www.cpu.co.uk/claim in a web browser, input your iPad serial number in the box and follow the onscreen instructions. Please note that loss is not covered under the education scheme, but accidental damage is.
To find the serial number, this is written on the original box, back of the device (in very small print) and in the setting – general – about option.
- Y7 insurance expires September 2028
- Y8 insurance expires September 2027
- Y9 insurance expires September 2026
- Y10 optional scheme (started September 2024) expires June 2026
- Y10 optional scheme (started September 2025) expires June 2027
All other schemes have now finished and you own the device.
Important
For all schemes there is a 14 day deadline! This means the insured event that caused the accidental damage (or theft), has to have taken place within 14 days of the claim being received. Therefore do not delay and put in your claim immediately. Having a functional iPad is a vital part of Academy life!
Here’s hoping you don’t need to use the insurance. As a final reminder, the iPad has to be in a hard protective case that covers the front and back of the device as well as the corners. Cases with open corners where the iPad is exposed (even though the material extends fully over the iPad) are not acceptable for the insurance.
The accidental damage policy states that the case should meet these criteria or the claim will not be processed. You have been advised to keep the iPad in its original case on several occasions and in the document you signed on collecting it.
The iPad you get back will more than likely be a replacement rather than a repair depending on which scheme you are in, so it is essential you back this up! The apps can be reloaded from your Apple iStore Account but work and other documents need to be restored from a backup. A replacement iPad will not be issued until the iCloud account is removed from your iPad. Please find instructions on how to do this below.
